Collaborative Robots Increase Efficiency at DM2

How Crotts & Saunders Helped a Swiss Machine Shop Stay Ahead of Production Demands

Collaborative robots thrive in environments where speed, repeatability, and safety are necessary. Dynamic Machining and Manufacturing (DM2) needed a machine-tending solution to keep up with production and turned to Crotts & Saunders, an HEH Group company, for help.

In this video, hear what the team from DM2 had to say about working with Crotts & Saunders.

Leonard Speaks explains that DM2 is primarily a swiss machine shop focusing on smaller parts with high production. Swiss machines typically have some automation function built in making it a great machine to have. They also provide additional services with other machines and when a customer approached them with a specific need, DM2 knew they would need to automate the process.

For this machine tending application, DM2 specifically wanted a collaborative robot. This is because they were aware of the space needed to properly gate off an industrial robot and they didn’t have the room. Additionally, their team wanted the flexibility to have easy access to the robot, user-friendly controls, and fast cycle times. Crotts & Saunders evaluated the project and suggested the Fanuc CRX, one of the market’s best collaborative robot brands.

Crotts & Saunders worked with DM2 along to way to pick the right CRX model and to ensure the success of programming set-up and installation. Vice President of DM2, Leonard Speaks, is extremely happy with the Fanuc CRX robot. He also mentioned that their time of purchase in 2020 was one of the most challenging times to engage in good customer service, and the Crotts & Saunders team went above and beyond to ensure a good experience for them. This automation system is now up and running shifts for DM2.
